Proposal · prepared for Cover to Cover Bookshop · 18 May 2026

A few specific fixes for cover-to-cover.co.uk.

Cover to Cover Bookshop · Mumbles, Swansea · website rebuild.

I rebuild small-business sites in my spare time when I can see they are leaving conversions on the table. I spent twenty minutes on cover-to-cover.co.uk and found three things worth writing down. Three findings below, then a working rebuild you can click through.

Three findings, in order of revenue impact

What twenty minutes on the live site turned up.

01

You own cover-to-cover.co.uk, but every link points visitors to a Shopify subdomain.

What I saw
cover-to-cover.co.uk currently 301-redirects to cover-to-cover-mumbles.myshopify.com. So when a customer Googles you, when a newsletter goes out, when a publisher links to your event listing, the URL they see and remember is the templated Shopify subdomain rather than your own brand address. The own-domain is bought and paid for but only ever appears for a fraction of a second in the browser bar before the redirect fires.
The rebuild
After rebuild, the new site lives at cover-to-cover.co.uk itself with no redirect. The Shopify backend can stay where it is for stock and orders. The customer-facing pages, the events programme, the bookshop story and contact details all sit on your own domain, served from Vercel edge under sub-100ms first-byte.
02

The year-long literary events programme is buried in the blog with no dedicated /events page.

What I saw
Sara Wheeler launching the Jan Morris biography at Mumbles Tabernacle on 9 July 2026. Michael Nath returning with Talbot & The Fall. Joan Darbyshire, Andrew Green, Amy Aed. The programme is the kind a city festival would book, but on the current site each event is a standalone blog post with no calendar view, no Event schema for Google, no upcoming-events panel on the homepage. A visitor arriving from a Google search for the Sara Wheeler launch lands on a Shopify product grid first, not the event.
The rebuild
After rebuild, a dedicated /events page with the full programme listed chronologically, Event JSON-LD on each entry so Google can surface the date and venue in the search result, and an "upcoming this season" panel on the homepage. The newsletter signup sits next to the events list, not buried in the footer.
03

Twenty-five years on Newton Road, the Bookseller feature, the Independent Bookshop of the Year shortlisting, none of it appears above the fold.

What I saw
Cover to Cover opened in September 1999. Tim Batcup took over in August 2017 after 18 years under Sarah Rees. The Bookseller ran a Spotlight feature in November 2022. The shop has been shortlisted for the British Book Awards Independent Bookshop of the Year. Yelp reviewers call it "an Aladdin’s cave filled with bookish treasure". None of that appears on the homepage of cover-to-cover-mumbles.myshopify.com. A first-time visitor sees a product grid and a Shopify-default header.
The rebuild
After rebuild, the hero opens with "Swansea’s independent bookshop on Newton Road, Mumbles, since 1999." A small heritage band names Sarah Rees as the founder and Tim Batcup as the current owner. The Bookseller and Independent Bookshop of the Year credits sit in a discreet press strip. The full story is in the rebuild at /preview.

If the proposal lands, reply with two or three 20-minute slots in the next ten days for a video call. I take on three Swansea and Cardiff builds this quarter, and first confirmed wins the slot. If I don't hear back by 28 May 2026, the proposal site comes down.
